Ganoderma sessile may or may not be properly referred to as the reishi mushroom.. Reishi is a well-known and well-researched medicinal mushroom (although see note on warnings and side effects) that has recently been split into several different species; G. sessile is one of the newly-recognized species.

Hmmm, that doesn't look quite like a Ganoderma (Reishi) to me. In fact, it looks more like Fomitopsis pinicola, the Red-Belted Polypore. I see this species on old pines and Doug-firs all the time, in fact, it's the most common polypore or bracket fungus in Oregon.

Greetings! I think your ID's are correct based on the polypore options in this are and the features shown in the photo. Do be cautious however with subsequent ID's as some specimens are not so clear: For example, some of what appear to be F. pinicola can be pale F. cajanderi, and without a look at the pore surface some could turn out to be unusually-smooth-topped Phellinus. 1. Take your wildcrafted Fomitopsis Pinicola bracket fungus and chop with a cleaver or hatchet into 1 inch chunks. Place these chunks into your food processor/or grating machine and grate into smaller strips. Or take some of your prepared tea fungus and measure the stated amount.
